To face this threat the focus is directly on technology and investment to develop a fully integrated, layered air defence. Were possible this should incorporate a mobile sea-based and transportable ground-based missile defence all fully networked into a multi-national missile shield and research and into advances across the spectrum from inner-tier weapon system developments to boost-phase detectors and a future of laser weapon interceptors.

Unsurprisingly this requires significant investment and the surface-to-air missile market over the next 10 years is expected to reach $22.3 billion.
